CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama is unfazed by Jonathan Guardo’s announcement that he will be supporting Bando Osmeña Pundok Kausgawan (BOPK) .
Rama said in politics, nothing is permanent.
“Everything has to be taken with some element of fluidity.God has his own plans,” he told reporters in a press conference at his office yesterday.
He also said he won’t mind if Guardo’s brother, Sambag 1 Barangay Captain Jerry Guardo will follow suit because he is confident Team Rama will still have a complete slate for next year’s election.
“Kinsa’y makuyog sa Team Rama, saludo ko. Mobarug man ta. Saludo ko sa mga tawo nga mobarug,” he added.
But Rama clarified that Jerry is still with his team.
He also said it is normal even in the national political scene for brothers to be in rival parties.
“Jerry has been very hardworking, and all the time responding,” he said.
Jerry will be running as one of Rama’s councilors in the 2012 elections.
Jonathan announced that he will be supporting BOPK, headed by former mayor and now representative Tomas Osmeña, during Osmeña’s birthday party last week.
Jonathan ran but lost to Osmeña in the 2010 elections. He served as the chairman of the Cebu City Sports Commission during Osmeña’s stint as mayor.
But their relationship turned sour when Jonathan failed to liquidate the budget for the 23rd Southeast Asian Games that the city hosted in 2005.
Meanwhile, Rama said he will be reelected as mayor not because of who he is but because of what he has accomplished.
“Akong administration, di mangintra og negosyo, ipakabuhi ang pulong nga serbisyo. Daghanon nato ang trabaho. Next year mag-ihap man ta, hain ang proyekto nato, hain ang proyekto niya. Dili sige magbalik-balik sa SRP kay 1995 pa man na. Trabaho sa, way panahon sa paghadlok, kaguol,” he added. (FREEMAN)
