Man stabs brod dead, guard kills neighbor

CEBU, Philippines - Two died in separate violent incidents in Daanbantayan and Balamban while a security guard and his son are now being hunted down for reportedly shooting their neighbor dead in sitio Upper Sta. Ana, Barangay Labangon, Cebu City yesterday morning.

In Daanbantayan, a man was arrested for allegedly stabbing to death his older brother at around 7:00 p.m. in Gov. M.J. Cuenco St., Barangay Poblacion last Saturday.

Rolito Punay, 36, died from the wound in his left armpit. His younger brother Ranilo, 28, is now detained at the Daanbantayan stockade pending criminal charges.

SPO1 Mamerto Gastador, Daanbantayan investigator, said that around 6:45 in the evening Rolito arrived home under the influence of liquor.

Gastador said that Rolito went violent upon knowing there was no food left for him. Ranilo, who was sleeping inside his room, woke up and shout back at Rolito.

Their father tried to pacify them but Rolito turned to their father and choked him. This prompted Ranilo to get a knife and stab Rolito.

In Balamban, a 19-year-old victim man died after he was stabbed by his neighbor around 11:50 last Saturday evening in Sitio Alang-Alang, Barangay Buanoy.

James Henieta, of Sitio Buhing Tubig, was wounded in the stomach after he was stabbed by Marvin Cangke, 25, of Sitio Kamanggahan 3 using a long bladed weapon locally known as “plamingko.”

Henieta was rushed to the Balamban Provincial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Cangke is now detained at the Balamban stockade.

PO1 Jhonreill Romero of the Balamban Police Station said that suspect and victim had a grudge.

In Cebu City, a security guard and his son are now being hunted down for reportedly shooting their neighbor dead in sitio Upper Sta. Ana, Barangay Labangon yesterday morning.

Suspects Esperidion Ruba, 52, of Sarsalejo security agency and his son Junry, 28, escaped after shooting to death Ernesto Casio, 36.

Investigation conducted by the Cebu City Homicide Section showed that Casio, a welder, was in his home after overtime from work when the elder Ruba suddenly appeared near the window and shot him thrice.

Esperidion’s son, who was also armed with a knife, appeared and tried to shoot the victim again but the two chose to flee immediately.

The victim was rushed to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for treatment but he succumbed to gunshot wounds on the right side of his chest, nape, and left thigh.

SPO3 Rey Cuyos, Homicide Section team leader, based on the accounts of the neighbors, said that the suspects accused the victim of throwing a stone at their house last week, which is being eyed as the motive behind the attack.

Cuyos said they will further investigate the incident to really determine what triggered the suspects to kill their neighbor. — (FREEMAN)
