CEBU, Philippines - Despite the changes in political alliances, Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia continues to work with the officials of the Durano-led Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (Bakud) party in the fifth district.

Garcia is set to visit the four towns in Camotes group of islands on Saturday to personally deliver financial assistance to the towns and barangay officials.

She will also visit the road concreting project in the isolated island of Pilar town.

Various projects will also be inaugurated during her visit to the towns of San Francisco, Tudela and Poro.

Garcia said she is always happy to visit Camotes Island which showcases the big transformation that has happened in the past eight years.

“It reminds me that these past eight years duna diay ta’y nahimo ug naka-abag pud ta pagpa-arang-arang sa kinabuhi sa atong mga kaigsoonang Sugbuanon labi na didto sa San Francisco, Poro, Tudela ug Pilar, (It reminds me that these past eight years we were able to do something and were able to help improve the lives of our fellow Cebuanos especially in the towns of San Francisco, Poro, Tudela and Pilar.)” Garcia said.

Last Wednesday, Garcia attended the inauguration of projects implemented by Compostela officials led by Mayor Joel Quiño.

Barely four months since the elected officials were proclaimed, Quiño and the rest of the Sangguniang Bayan members were able to implement infrastructure projects worth more than P10 million.

These include the Senior Citizens Building and Public Rest Room worth P1.4 million funded by the provincial government; one unit of garbage compactor truck worth P2.3 million and a dump truck worth P2 million.

The town also developed its Seafront Park or a baywalk worth P2.5 million and barangay road concreting projects.

After the inauguration, Garcia together with her son-in-law, Liloan Mayor Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco, proceeded to Sogod town to grace the fifth Panagsogod Festival.

Garcia and Frasco were met by some of the members of the Durano clan and Bakud party members led by Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, Sogod Mayor Lissa Marie “Monyen” Durano-Streegan and Provincial Board Member Thaddeus Jude Durano-Sybico.

Other Bakud members present were Tudela Mayor Erwin Yu, Catmon Mayor Dan Jusay and Danao City Councilor Miguel Magpale.

Though not a Bakud member, Samboan Mayor Raymund Calderon, a cousin of Magpale, was also present.

The governor turned over P50,000 worth of checks to each of the 18 barangays in Sogod as financial assistance for participating in the Panagsogod Festival.  (FREEMAN)
