Legal clinic for teachers set

- The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Public school teachers in Central Visayas will hold a legal clinic for teachers on July 28, 2012 at the Zapatera Elementary School Gym near the Cebu City Schools Division Office in Sikatuna St.

A panel of lawyers will be discussing relevant laws and memoranda regarding the rights and privileges of public school teachers.

They will also entertain questions regarding issues and concerns involving the teaching profession.

These issues include problems with loan sharks and lending institutions, the Government Service Insurance System, ranking, promotions, hiring and transfer, communist red-tagging, accusations of electioneering and child abuse.

Other issues include transparency with the maintenance and other operating expenses, service credits, Parent-Teacher’s Association dealings, Special Education Fund, local school board, delays in the releases of allowances, step increment adjustments, and others.

Department of Education-7 Regional Director Carmelita Dulangon issued a memorandum inviting all public school teachers to participate the activity initiated by the Alliance of Concerned Teachers Region 7 Union.

Earlier, ACT Region 7 Union requested Dulangon to relay the information to all divisions, districts and schools so that interested teachers may be informed.

A registration fee of P20, to cover snacks for the participants, shall be collected.

“ACT representatives should closely coordinate with the Schools Division Superintendent, so that DepEd Orders on non-disruption of classes and maximum teaching-learning contact hours are strictly observed,” said Dulangon in her memorandum dated July 11, 2012.

The National Union of People’s Lawyers, represented by lawyers Alfonso Cinco IV and Kit Enriquez, also encouraged teachers to send their questions and concerns to their Facebook account via private message.(FREEMAN)
