CEBU, Philippines - Carcar City Mayor Nicepura Apura assured support for the gubernatorial bid of Rep. Pablo John Garcia in the coming 2013 elections.
Apura with mayors Valdemar Chiong of Naga City, Eduardo Selma of Minglanilla and Lionel Bacaltos of Sibonga met with Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and Pablo John yesterday.
Apura also said that they did not discuss politics in the meeting.
“We are certain to support Gov. Gwen Garcia for senator, PJ for governor and Samsam Gullas for congressman,” Apura said.
Apura and the other mayors are members of the Alayon Party.
After the closed door meeting, Pablo John told reporters that they just discussed about development projects and some events in the district.
He said that there’s no reason to talk about politics as the mayors have expressed their support for his candidacy despite talks Alayon headed by Rep. Eduardo Gullas has forged an alliance with the Liberal Party (LP).
LP will be fielding lawyer Hilario “Junjun” Davide III in the gubernatorial race next year.
Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez was not present yesterday but he already had a recent meeting with the Garcias. The Garcias had also met with Gullas who assured them that all the mayors in the first district will be supporting the candidacy of both Pablo John and Gov. Garcia.
Last week, the Garcias also met with the four mayors at the Marco Polo Plaza.
Former San Fernando mayor Lakambini “Neneth” Reluya showed up in that meeting to declare her support for Pablo John. San Fernando Mayor Antonio Canoy is reportedly being considered by LP to run for congress in the first district.
If it pushes through, Canoy will be facing Rep. Gullas’s grandson, Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas.
Gullas earlier said that his Alayon Party remains committed to support Vice Governor Agnes Magpale who will run under LP but some mayors are not yet certain whom to support for vice governor. (FREEMAN)
