Asturias gets school buildings

CEBU, Philippines - The Province of Cebu and the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI) turned over yesterday four rehabilitated school buildings in Asturias that cost around P6 million.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, third district Rep. Pablo John Garcia, Asturias Mayor Alan Adlawan and Amaya Aboitiz, deputy director for operation of RAFI, led the turnover ceremony to respective school heads.

The three-classroom elementary school buildings are located in barangays Tubigagmanok, Ubogon, Manguiao and Bago. RAFI also turned over a day care center to barangay Langub worth P900,000.

The rehabilitation cost of each school building is P1.37 million for barangay Tubigagmanok; P1.47 million for Ubogon; P1.55 for Manguiao; and P1.35 for Bago.

RAFI shouldered the materials while the Capitol shouldered the labor cost. As the end user of the project, school heads assume full responsibility for the maintenance of the project.

Aboitiz emphasized that the school rehabilitation project jointly undertaken by RAFI and the Province is aimed at transforming public schools into a better learning environment.

Garcia commended RAFI for being a valuable and effective partner of the Province of Cebu.RAFI has shelled out around P15 million since the project started.

Earlier, Capitol and RAFI turned over rehabilitated elementary school buildings in barangays Lunas II, Sta. Lucia, Don Maximino Estrella, San Roque, Langub, Looc Norte and Owak.

Adlawan said there are still ongoing rehabilitation projects such as in barangays Agbanga, Agtugop, Tag-amakan and in Asturias Central Elementary School.

Garcia turned over yesterday P1.3 million as counterpart to RAFI for the ongoing projects. It is part of the P5.7 million Garcia distributed yesterday in Asturias including the P100,000 each for all 27 barangays and the P1.76 million assistance for the construction of drainage system in the town. The amount each barangay received is for the construction, repair and improvement of health centers and day care centers.—(FREEMAN)
