CEBU, Philippines - “We are almost ready for the declaration of fourth district as an economic zone. We are hoping that it will be approved,” Salimbangon said during the 888 Forum yesterday at the Marco Polo Plaza.

Salimbangon said that they have made the necessary things to be done like concreting of the national highway and national bridges and building other infrastructure support for tourists and investors.

They are working on electrification as essential component of being an economic zone. He said an investor plans to put up a powerplant in their area.

He reiterated that the plan for an alternate airport in Daanbantayan town or Medellin will be essential to further boost the district’s economy. The “roro” facility in Daanbantayan is also being worked out to connect to Iloilo, Negros and Masbate.

On the tourism side, they are promoting the Queen’s Island Golf Course in Medellin and the municipality itself as the golfing capital of the Cebu. The said golf course will be marketed for international tournaments being “one of the largest and well-structured golf courses” in the country.

They are also promoting the beautiful beaches in San Remigio, Tabuelan, Daanbantayan, Bantayan Island and Medellin with its Gibitngil Island now known as the “Funtastic Island”.

Meanwhile, they are also promoting education with the establishment of Cebu Normal University (CNU) Medellin Campus, Cebu Technological University (CTU) in Daanbantayan and a CTU in San Remigio soon. – (FREEMAN)
