Security guard won't face charges
CEBU, Philippines - The security guard who attempted to jump off from an unfinished commercial building last Wednesday will no longer face criminal raps after his medical results showed he suffered a brief psychotic disorder with marked stressor.
Dr. Lynnocelle Indolos, of the Department of Behavioral Sciences of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City, subjected Benedicto Rosaceña, 41, of Barangay Tapilon, Daanbantayan town, to psychiatric treatment.
The Investigation and Detective Management Branch of the Cebu City Police Office will no longer file charges for alarm and scandal against Rosaceña after they received the medical result yesterday.
Brief psychotic disorder with marked stressor is a brief reactive psychosis that can be triggered by an extremely stressful event in the life of an individual.
It is characterized by delusions, hallucinations, catatonic symptoms and strange speech, however, the symptoms last for a short period after which the individual returns to normal again.
Rosaceña reportedly went up the building due to fear that a group of construction workers armed with metal pipes would harm him.
Chief Insp. Bonifacio Garciano, chief of the IDMB, said Rosaceña was admitted for further treatment.
“Maglisod gyud mi og file og kaso kay duna man diay siya’y deperensiya sa pangisip base sa doctor,” Bonifacio said.
Policemen and firemen rushed to the Barangay Zapatera around 4 a.m. last Wednesday when Rosaceña caused a scene after climbing a four-story building in what appeared to be a suicide attempt.
Supt. Rex Derilo, chief of the Firearms and Explosives Division, was also present at the scene. He was one of those who negotiated with Rosaceña which lasted five hours.
Police reportedly offered P5,000 and breakfast to Rosaceña, however he turned down the offer.
It was only around 7 a.m. when Rosaceña came down after one of his nephews helped in the negotiations. (FREEMAN)
