Chamber vows to build more police stations

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry assured continued support for the local police by sponsoring more police stations in the city and in the province.

“We assure you that your Cebu Chamber of Commerce will continue to construct more police stations in Metro Cebu and for the province, recognizing the shortcomings of budget coming from the nation’s government,” said CCCI President Prudencio Gesta, who was guest of honor during yesterday’s weekly flag-raising ceremony at the Police Regional Office-7 headquarters.

Gesta asked PRO-7 to identify properties owned by the local or national government so that they can look for donors from their members for the construction of new police stations.

“From the business sector, we have pro-active involvement to help and assist our PNP and other government agencies in peace-building activities,” he said. 

He likewise attributed the growth of business activities in Cebu to the peace and order provided by the police, stressing that this would surely attract more investors.

“The active involvement of the business community and the police will surely bring better peace and prosperity in the community. However, reality check disclosed that the ideal environment is still to be desired,” he said.

To reach the suitable level peace and security, Gesta said CCCI have been very active in maintaining programs and activities for the community such as having consultations with different sectors on various concerns concerning safety and security.

In the past years, the chamber has facilitated the construction of the San Nicolas Police Station, the Waterfront Police Station, the Ma-bolo Police Station, and the new Fuente Police Station which was dubbed as the model police station for the entire region.

CCCI also hopes to turn over the new Parian Police Station to the Cebu City Police Office within the next few months.   (FREEMAN)
