Club confers Garcia Woman of the Year award
CEBU, Philippines - The Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente conferred the Woman of The Year Award on Governor Gwendolyn Garcia Saturday night at the Teatro Casino of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.
This was the third award that Garcia received in a week.
Last Thursday, she received the Grand Tourism Award during the 2012 Tourism Congress and the following day, she was also given the Grand Chamber Award by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CICC).
The rotary club recognized Garcia for her successful vision for love for the culture and the arts and her strong leadership and unwavering commitment to service in government.
“We hope for her continued service in government if not for the Province of Cebu but for a national position as Senator of the Republic,” said former Rotary District Governor Joseph Michael Espina as he introduced the governor.
Garcia was also inducted as honorary member in recognition of her exemplary contribution to the Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente.
“It is the highest honor that any club can give to an individual who has helped the club in so many countless ways,” said former Rotary president Mary Anne Solomon.
Solomon said that since Garcia became governor, she has never failed them and their beneficiaries.
Solomon also said that with the blessing from God and help of the people, Garcia will be the first lady senator from Cebu.
“I actually feel like a big winner tonight,” said Garcia in her speech.
After declaring her intention to run for senate next year, Garcia admitted that she sometimes get unsure to pursue this direction.
But with the awards she has received recently, she is pushed and encouraged to continue the path that she has taken.
“All of these, I assure you, hopefully by God’s grace and with your whole-hearted support, will bring this atribida to make her una senadora,” Garcia said.
Also last Saturday, Garcia received in behalf of the Province of Cebu the recognition as partner in service particularly in the Pink Advocacy, Isang Litrong Liwanag and medical missions and for pushing to improve the Larsian Barbeque in Fuente from the rotary club.
