Bingo cards not from my office -VM Young

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Vice Mayor Joy Augustus Young denied reports that his office has any hand in the nightly bingo events that the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) holds in the barangays.

“My office has nothing to do with that. It is not true that the bingo cards are from my office,” he explained.

It was earlier reported that BOPK holds bingo events in barangays with rice and shirts as prizes.

To win, a player must be able to form any of the BOPK letters on the card.

Young's office reportedly dispenses the bingo cards at P10 to P20 and each of the cards is good for five games.

Young said he only donates prizes to the organizers who requested for assistance.

The prizes are from his own pocket and donations from friends.

The vice mayor said the nightly bingos should not be treated negatively because the proceeds of the game goes to the sitio's respective chapels.

“What's wrong with that? It is helping the chapels,” Young said.

Rep. Tomas Osmeña of Cebu City's South District and head of BOPK said the nightly bingos are for fun and keep both the old and young together.

Osmeña said he does not think that holding such an activity can win them votes.

“Otherwise, I will hold bingos every two hours,” Osmeña said.

He finds it funny that it was made an issue against BOPK.- (FREEMAN)
