Cebu to send assistance to 3 flooded provinces

- The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - The province of Cebu will send relief and cash assistance to three provinces in Mindanao affected by flashfloods brought about by Typhoon Butchoy.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday ordered Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Marivic Garces to validate the report of National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC).

This is to determine how much assistance Cebu would send to the provinces of Sarangani, South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat.

“We wish to first validate the number of families that were actually affected and the damaged to infrastructure and damaged to houses,” Garcia told reporters.

Like in other provinces receiving assistance from Cebu, the sacks of rice will be claimed at the National Food Authority outlets.

Garcia said she is thinking of going to these provinces to personally deliver the checks as soon as the amount would be determined based on the recommendation of PSWDO.

The three provinces were placed under a state of calamity in the wake of heavy rains.

NDRRMC earlier reported that five families in Kidapawan City were evacuated.

In Sultan Kudarat, 23 families of 320 were evacuated in villages of Obial, Sta. Clara, Hinalaan, Himulan and Kalamansig.  (FREEMAN)
