CPA asks Rama to clear illegal structures

- Rene U. Borromeo - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Port Authority (CPA) asked Mayor Michael Rama to clear the back portion of the Carbon Market Unit III of several illegal structures.

The area occupied by the illegal settlers used to be part of Quezon Boulevard, a national road inside the old port zone. Since it was affected by the creation of the South Coastal Road, the road was closed.

In a letter addressed to Rama, CPA General Manager Dennis Villamor gave the mayor permission to remove the wall of the old port at the back of the Gotiaoco Building.

Rama decided to remove the concrete wall of the port so that the sea and the old building of Compania Maritima can be viewed directly from the Senior Citizens Plaza beside the Gotiaoco Building, and even at the mayor’s office.

City Administrator Jose Marie Poblete said the city will remove the illegal structures at the back of Carbon Market Unit III once the Senior Citizens Plaza will be completed.

Aside from a few shanties, the back portion of Carbon Market is being used as stockyard of those engaged in the rental business of bamboo cots. — (FREEMAN)
