CEBU, Philippines - Barili Vice Mayor Marlon Garcia yesterday led a protest rally in front of the town’s public market against Mayor Teresito Mariñas following the latter’s statement blaming the council for uncollected garbage.
Garcia was joined by the members of the municipal council and some barangay captains in the protest action. Garcia’s group disposed the uncollected garbage at the public market after the rally.
The vice mayor said they purposely held the rally to inform the public of the reasons why the council slashed the fuel allocations for garbage trucks.
According to Garcia, he inquired from the budget officer how the P2.5 million worth of fuel in 2011 and 2010 was consumed when the town only needs P273,000 worth of fuel quarterly.
Garcia said he told the budget officer to maintain a log book and list down all municipal vehicles, trip tickets, the mileage reading costs, and fuel loaded on trucks, but the budget officer allegedly did not comply with his request.
Mariñas described the issues hurled against him as harassment. (FREEMAN)
