Ex-convict, alleged carnapper shot dead

CEBU, Philippines - A man who has just been released from jail was shot dead in Cebu City while another man who was once involved in carnapping was shot dead while walking home in Carcar City.

In Cebu City, Hermi-ginio Secretales III alias Dongkie, 31, was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in Unit 5, Oprra, Barangay Kalunasan at past 5 a.m. yesterday.

Investigation revealed that Secretales was walking when an armed man shot him several times. Secretales slumped to the ground as the perpetrator reportedly walked away casually.

Responding barangay tanods took the victim to the Cebu City Medical Center but Secretales succumbed to the wounds on his back and right arm.

Police are in possession of four empty shells of a caliber .45 pistol recovered from the crime scene. PO3 Lou Pagara of the Homicide Section said they are eyeing illegal drugs as the motive behind the attack.

Pagara said the victim has just been released from the Cebu City Jail where he was detained for theft.

“Ug nalambigit ‘na siya sa drugs,” Pagara said.

A suspect has been identified, he said, but the name would have to be withheld pending investigation.

In Carcar City, Alfredo Alquiser Jr., 31, was shot dead while walking home in Sitio Baracca, Barangay Poblacion II midnight yesterday.

Alquiser succumbed to two gunshot wounds in the head and chest. He was declared dead on arrival at the Carcar Provincial Hospital.

PO2 Rosendo Binondo of the Carcar City police said Alquiser was walking home after buying cigarettes at a sari-sari store nearby when he was shot.

Barangay tanod Ernesto Mangalad, 65, said he was also walking nearby when he heard bursts of gunfire. He then saw Alquiser slump to the ground.

No evidence was recovered from the scene.

As of yesterday, police remained clueless as to who might have killed the victim, but suspect that it might have something to do with the victim’s involvement in carnapping.

The carnapping incident happened early this year but the case did not reach the court after the complainant withdrew the charges. — (FREEMAN)
