Carpenter shot dead; collector robbed
CEBU, Philippines - A 46-year-old man was shot dead by an unidentified gunman in Barangay Kang-Actol in the western town of Dumanjug dawn last Thursday.
Investigation revealed that Hector Macoy, a carpenter, was sleeping inside his house when he was awakened by someone calling his name from outside.
When he opened the door, a lone gunman shot him twice at gunpoint, hitting him on the chest. Macoy died instantaneously.
Police said the alleged anomalous dealings in relation to Macoy’s work may have something to do with the killing. Macoy allegedly did not finish his work on several house construction projects despite the fact that he had been paid fully.
Meanwhile, several hours after the incident in Dumanjug, an account officer of Katipunan Bank was robbed by two unidentified men in Barangay Dawis Norte in the northern town of Carmen.
The incident happened midday on that day just after the victim, Neil Client Barcenas, collected payment from a client.
Barcenas said the suspects had approached him and declared a hold-up while pointing a gun at him. He was left with no choice but to hand over the P50,000 he had collected. The suspects immediately fled using a black Honda Wave motorcycle toward Danao City, the city neighboring Carmen.
The motorcycle reportedly had no plate number.
Police officers led by SPO3 Renerio Masocol Jr. launched a hot pursuit operation but failed to arrest the suspects as of yesterday. (FREEMAN)
