Toledo marks fiesta with two-week long fete

CEBU, Philippines - The daily and nightly activities of the two-week long annual fiesta celebration of Toledo City have already started.

The opening salvo was held last Friday, June 1, with the reunion of the Toledo Stars held at the Barba Sports Complex.

Last June 2 was the presentation of candidates of the Miss Toledo 2012 while the coronation night will be held on June 8 yet.

The search for Little Mister and Miss Toledo was held last June 3 followed by the Senior Citizens Night last June 4 and the Employees Night last night.

The activities were led by Vice Mayor Arlene Zambo as overall chairwoman, actively supported by her husband, Engr. Avelino Zambo Jr.

Tonight is the Barangay Night while the Toledo Got Talent contest will be held tomorrow sponsored by third district Rep. Pablo John “PJ” Garcia.

Scheduled for June 9 are the Art Toledo at Days Hotel Toledo and the Department of Education Night followed by Divas Glamorous Night on June 10.

A fluvial parade at the city pier and Dance at the Boulevard in lighthouse area are set for June 11.

A lot of activities are also lined up for June 12 despite being a non-working holiday in celebration of Independence Day.

The city will join the country in celebrating Independence Day in the morning of June 12 at the Garden City Hall.

The fifth Hinulawan Festival will start at noon at the Commercial Arcade which will also entertain the guests and participants of the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo led by Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

The festival and the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo will be capped by a fireworks display in the evening. 

That same night the Ginoong Toledo 2012 will be held at the Barba Sports Complex and the Battle of the Bands at Commercial Arcade.

There is also an ongoing trade fair for the entire duration of the festivities. —(FREEMAN)
