CEBU, Philippines - A ten-year-old Grade 2 pupil of the Tangil Elementary School in Dumanjug town, Cebu, is now in critical condition after he was hit by a motorcycle while crossing the highway yesterday noon.
Mark Lawrence Jongoy, a resident of the said place, had just been dismissed from classes and was crossing the street when he was hit by the motorcycle-for-hire driven by Ardon Georpe, 40, of Barangay Cogon, Dumanjug.
PO2 Ramon Chinel of the Dumanjug Police Station said the victim’s house was just across the highway from the school and the victim may have been coming home for lunch when he was hit.
The impact of the collision threw the victim into the pavement a few meters away, causing him multiple injuries.
Georpe himself took the victim to the Barili District Hospital in Barili town but doctors there quickly referred him to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.
Georpe surrendered to the police and his now detained awaiting possible charges against him.
During questioning, the driver said the boy crossed the highway too quickly for him to react.
He said he was taking a passenger to the neighboring barangay of Cogon when the incident happened. — /BRP (FREEMAN)
