National politicos to join Suroy-Suroy
CEBU, Philippines - Some politicians set to run for senator in 2013 elections are expected to join the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo Explore the Midwest this coming June 11 and 12.
Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said Sen. Loren Legarda, former senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, Joey de Venecia III and Bayan Muna Partylist Rep. Teddy Casiño will be joining the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo.
Garcia is also seeking a senatorial post in 2013 together with the politicians she named under the United Nationalist Alliance led by Vice President Jejomar Binay.
The Suroy-Suroy Sugbo was conceived in 2004 by Garcia together with the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The said activity is organized into four segments --the Southern Heritage Trail, the Northern Escapade, Enchanting Camotes, and Explore the Midwest-- undertaken separately in a year.
Aside from politicians, some businessmen and members of the consular corps will also attend the activity, said Garcia.
Garcia invited new French Ambassador to the Philippines Gilles Garachon to the join the activity during his courtesy call to the Capitol yesterday.
Garachon reportedly expressed interest in Cebu in the field of trade and tourism.
The president and chief executive officer of Cemex Philippines, Pedro Palomino, will also attend, said Garcia.
The Provincial Board is now working for the institutionalization of the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo to sustain it even after the term of Garcia.
The proposed ordinance sponsored by Board Member Arleigh Jay Sitoy is now up for second reading before the PB. (FREEMAN)
