American to sue Filipina girlfriend
CEBU, Philippines - A 63-year-old American national who claimed to have fallen “madly in love” with a Filipina he met in the internet went to the Cebu City Police Office Theft and Robbery Section claiming he was deceived.
“I want her behind bars to prevent her from victimizing others,” he said, accusing a woman from Surigao and who is residing in Lahug, Cebu City of getting around P1 million from him in a span of nine months.
The victim, who requested anonymity, said he fell in love with the woman through their conversations over the internet.
“She had good English,” said the victim, a native of Hawaii.
He said it was easy for him to trust the woman as she was claiming to be a member of a certain religious group and even sent photos of her in front of a church.
In December last year, the woman started asking money from him. He showed transaction records of 60 money transfers amounting to P561,000.
The first money transfer was for the repair of their damaged roof after it was reportedly ravaged by a typhoon wherein he sent $700 or around P30,000.
In the following months, he was convinced to invest in a swine business for $2,100 for the purchase of 20 piglets and he was given supposed pictures of their business. Later on, he also sent money for a boutique at Barangay Mabolo and a water refilling station, which turned out to be false claims. — (FREEMAN)
