CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama won't allow the removal of the perimeter fence installed around the burnt Gaisano Capital South until the building is completely demolished in spite of the recommendation of the City Traffic Operations Management (Citom).
Citom board recommended the removal of the fence to open Colon and Leon Kilat Streets back to two-way vehicle traffic.
Rama said it is too dangerous to remove the fences while the demolition of the building is still ongoing.
“Maayo og madala na og sangga ni RaffyYap (Citom executive officer) kon dunay mahulog nga dakung semento paingon sa ubos," Rama said in jest.
The Citom board headed by former city councilor Sylvan “Jack” Jakosalem recommended to the City Council to pass a resolution informing the Gaisano South Capital management of their plan to remove the fence before May 31.
In a letter addressed to the City Council, Yap explained that the recommendation to remove the perimeter fence is to accommodate the normal flow of two-way traffic at the place when the classes start next month.
Rama had instructed his staff to set an urgent meeting with Yap, Office of the Building Official (OBO) chief Josefa Ylanan, City Engineer Kenneth Carmelita Enriquez, City Administrator Jose Marie Poblete and the representative of Gaisano South Capital management for them to discuss about it.- (FREEMAN)
