LGUs get P24 million in aid from the Capitol
CEBU, Philippines - Mayors of local government units in Cebu Province yesterday received P24 million in financial assistance for their respective projects from Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday morning at the Capitol Social Hall.
Provincial Engineer Adolfo Quiroga, who also heads the provincial planning and development office, said the financial assistance released was in response to the request of the LGUs made last year.
Carcar City and Santander town received the biggest amount with P2 million each. Most of the rest received P100,000 each.
Garcia said she made it a point to hand over the checks in one day, some of the checks were already issued as early as January.
“We will put a stop to this procedure na ipadala lang sa mga municipality ang ilang treasurers unya mao na’y mo-claim sa financial assistance para masabtan sab unsa’y ayuda para sa unsa na purpose,” Garcia said.
The same financial assistance was intended for the municipalities of Barili, Daanbantayan, Carmen, Liloan and Consolacion, but they were crossed out of the list.
“Mga absent ‘na sila. Nagpadala lang sa ilang mga representatives or treasurers. Kung kinsa kadtong nangayo, mao’y mudawat,” the governor asserted.
However, these municipalities still have the chance to claim their financial assistance.
The LGUs requested financial assistance for their programs and projects like their festivals, medical missions and road improvement among many others.
The provincial government has also decided to download funds to concerned LGUs for the construction of their birthing centers.
These were the LGUs of Carcar City, Sibonga, Boljoon, Santander, Barili, Pinamungajan, Toledo City, Balamban, Tabuelan, Bogo City, Tabogon, Santa Fe, Borbon, Liloan and Consolacion.
The Capitol purposely did this to empower the LGUs to implement some of its projects.
“It is also indication of our confidence on your capability and good governance,” Garcia said in her speech yesterday.
Garcia also believes that downloading the funds to the LGUs will speed up the completion of the project. (FREEMAN)
