CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma watches the impeachment trial against Chief Justice Renato Corona with a sense of trust and prayer above all.
Palma said he shall do the same tomorrow as Corona takes the witness stand.
He said the Church prays that the impeachment court will arrive at a fair decision.
“I entrust it to the senator-judges and we just pray that the decision would be characterized by respect for the law, our own cultural tradition, fairness and essence of justice for all, so that it will bring good to the people,” he said.
Corona will appear tomorrow as the last witness for his defense before the Senate impeachment court.
Lead defense counsel Serafin Cuevas assured Presiding Senator-Judge Juan Ponce Enrile that Corona will take the witness stand tomorrow when the proceedings resume.
Palma also called on the people, whom he described as “excited” for Tuesday’s trial, to recognize that the trial is already the domain of the senator-judges and thus, they should be trusted to handle it. –(FREEMAN)
