CEBU, Philippines - Twenty-six passengers were rescued by the Coast Guard last Saturday, May 12, after the motorboat they were riding conked out off Carmen town.
Cebu Coast Guard station commander Rolando Punzalan said the incident happened at around 11am when motorboat “Ghanne Mae 1” was travelling from Camotes Island to Danao City.
It was a Roseben Jerez, security in charge of the Port of Cebu, who reported the incident to the Coast Guard. In turn, the Coast Guard called lawyer Frank Malilong who was among the passengers of the motorboat.
Upon receiving the info, elements of the Coast Guard immediately went to the area. All passengers were safely rescued and brought back to shore.
Aside from Malilong, the passengers on board were Atty. Alex Monteclar, Dr. Alma Malilong, Dr. Victor Bessa, Dr. Jessamin Fermentera, Dr. Melanie Sabinay, Dr. Teresita Rodriguez, Dr. Danio Garcia, Ben Sun, Era Acosta, William Acosta, Alex Ong, Julian Tan, Lolong Alfar, Allan Ting, Charles Acosta, Hannah Acosta, Weng Cerojano, Danny Llenes, Bernadatte Ting, Domiciano Geraldizo and SPO2 Francisco Parilla.
The vessel was being manned by Efren Barayuga, captain; Pablo Bulodo, engineer; and William Adalwan and Rannel Mansalay, crew members. –(FREEMAN)
