CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Government turned over 152 boxes of assorted ammunition to the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) yesterday in support of the Region-Wide Gun Tournament this coming May 17 and 18.
The chairman of the Police Coordinating Advisory Council, Engr. Eugene Elizalde, handed out 96 boxes of ammunition to CCPO for their armalites, 20 boxes for .45 caliber and 30 boxes for 9 mm caliber pistols, which will be used during the upcoming tournament.
“We are supporting them by giving ammunition so they can practice and hopefully win the competition,” Elizalde said.
“Nagapasalamat ko ug dako sa atong city government nga gitagaan mi ug mga bala…paningkamutan gyud nato nga mudaog ta, (I am very grateful to the city government for giving us ammunition. We will do our best to win.)” SWAT Team Leader SPO2 Renante Aparece Nioda said.
SWAT teams in Region 7 will be competing against each other for a spot in the nationwide tournament which has three categories which include the sniper initiative, endurance firing and obstacles.
Led by Nioda, Cebu City will be represented by four teams, with eight members each, who are all regular members of the police force. Two of the four teams are comprised of veterans or senior members, while the other two are of rookies.
Cebu City Deputy Director for Operations Supt. Arnel Banzon said that the purpose of sending out rookies is to “expose and push them” to join similar competitions like these in the future.
This will be the city’s third time to join the tournament after their last tournament in 2006 at the ASEAN Summit held here in Cebu and last 2004, for the nationals in Manila.
The regional gun tournament “Cross Quarter Battle” will be held at the Cebu Pistol and Rifle Association (CPRA) firing range in Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City. – (FREEMAN)
