CEBU, Philippines - Two separate police operations yielded more than what authorities expected from the alarms they were responding to dawn yesterday.
In Barangay Lorega San Miguel, elements of the Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IDMB) arrested two people, one of them minor, for possession of illegal drugs at around 2 a.m. in Sitio Lawis. The arrest, however, was incidental because the IDMB personnel were actually responding to a robbery alarm at the interior portion of the barangay.
“We saw them as we responded to a robbery alarm. They seem suspicious so we checked them out,” said PO2 Omar Cordova, one of the arresting officers.
When the policemen introduced themselves as law enforces, the two “went rigid and tried to flee.”
PO1 Castor Cordova said he found a sachet of what believed to be shabu when he frisked the minor. He also found another sachet when he frisked the minor’s companion identified as Gerald Adolfo, 29.
Meanwhile, elements of the Cebu Intelligence Branch (CIB) of the Cebu City Police Office arrested a man for illegal possession of firearms around midnight in Sitio Meniolida, Barangay Calamba.
Like in the other incident, the arrest was also incidental because the CIB personnel were conducting a buy-bust operation beforehand. The operation was against a certain Victor Yanong, 57, following an anonymous tip. The suspect was arrested with seven sachets of shabu and the P200 buy-bust money used.
After the operation, however, they chanced upon Glendover Entice, 40, who was near the area and who was in possession of a K69 submachine gun containing a full magazine with 9mm bullets. —(FREEMAN)
