CEBU, Philippines - Thousands of job applicants are expected to troop today to the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) in Mandaue City for the Local Jobs Fair organized by the provincial government.
Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said they are expecting 8,000 applicants today to compete for the available local job positions from at least 48 reputable companies who have signified their intention to participate in the activity.
“A glance at these companies would show you that reputable and established companies in Cebu are part of this,” she said.
Among the prominent companies joining the local jobs fair today are the Aboitiz Construction Group; Cebu Mitsumi, Inc.; Duty Free Philippines; Gaisano chain of stores; Lhuillier Group of Companies; Robinsons; Rustans; SM Supermarket; Watsons Personal Care Store; Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc; and several others.
The Capitol’s Public Employment Services Office disclosed that there are 3,794 positions to be filled up of the 48 companies.
There is also One Stop Shop at CICC today for applicants who want to secure documents from the National Bureau of Investigation, Social Security System, Pag-Ibig and National Statistics Office.
“I greet the entire labor force that continues to be the key to this nation’s progress and success,” Garcia said.
Garcia made special mention to Overseas Filipino Workers who contributed billions of dollars to the country’s economic growth out of sacrificing their lives and families in working abroad for their children’s better tomorrow.
“We join the entire labor force in hoping for an environment where labor and management can work effectively together in order to achieve positive growth and make a positive difference in the lives of the majority of our countrymen,” she said.
Garcia emphasized the need to balance the concern of the management and the concern of labor force.
“If both interests can be effectively balanced, then truly we can see a working and viable economy that can register continued positive growth,” she said.
The Province of Cebu and the Department of Labor and Employment are working in addressing employment issues.
In fact, DOLE-7 today will award the Province of Cebu for its invaluable support and contribution to the maintenance of Industrial Peace in the region. (FREEMAN)
