"Kadaugan" going global

- Jose P. Sollano -

CEBU, Philippines - The success of the "Kadaugan Street Party prompted the Lapu-Lapu City officials to promote it to other countries to attract more visitors.

City Councilor Harry Don Radaza said there is a need for them to promote the event to the world considering that it has been highly successful since it was first held two years ago.

According to Radaza, they will coordinate with travel operators and tour guides for the inclusion of the event in their promotion.

He said they will also tap beach resorts and hotel owners in the effort to promote the event.

The Kadaugan Street Party, a two-night cultural extravaganza held every April 27 to 28, has been promoted locally but the city has yet to showcase it before the abroad due to lack of budget.

The event celebrates the success of Datu Lapu-Lapu and his men against the Spanish forces led by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan.

This year's celebration drew a crowd of more than 6,000.  (FREEMAN)
