Street closed for Kadaugan fete

CEBU, Philippines - Starting 6 a.m. today the lane of Manuel L. Quezon National Highway adjacent to City Hall in Barangay Pusok up to Barangay Pajo in Lapu-Lapu City will be closed to vehicular traffic for the Kadaugan Street Party.

Tomorrow from 6 p.m. to midnight, the two opposing lanes will also be closed to vehicular traffic.

Multi-cabs and private-owned vehicles bound for Mactan Export Processing Zone Phase 1 from Barangay Basak and the public market in Barangay Poblacion are advised to use the Sangi Road behind City Hall up to the junction of the Mactan Cebu International Airport in front of Timex Philippines.

The same route is recommended for vehicles from the airport and MEPZ Phase I bound for Poblacion area.

Vehicles from MEPZ and MCIA will continue using the Marcelo B. Fernandez Bridge as closure will start at the foot of the said bridge.

ML Quezon highway will be open on April 29, 2012.

Today is also a special non-working holiday for the Lapu-Lapu City government as the city celebrates the 491st anniversary of the Kadaugan sa Mactan.

The reenactment will take place at 7 a.m. today at the Liberty Shrine in Barangay Mactan. The roles of Lapu-Lapu, Reyna Bulakna and Ferdinand Magellan will be played by Richard Quan, Geneva Cruz and Patrick Garcia, respectively.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. is the guest speaker in today’s celebration of the Kadaugan sa Mactan.

Aside from Coloma, Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo, Jr., chief of the Police Regional Office-7, was also invited to deliver his inspirational message.

At 3 p.m. the “Hudyaka sa ML Quezon” will start with a free concert, a boxing match will also be held by Ala Boxing Promotions.

The city has allocated P1.5 million for the street party activities.

City Councilor Harry Radaza who heads the committee on tourism invited everybody to join the “Midnight Beer Run” wherein runners will be served beer at race stations instead of water.

“Moderation lang ang pag-inom, dili gyud ni siya hubog. Tag-usa ra ka cup ang ihatag,” Radaza said.

Radaza also announced the Korean community will put up a stage where bands will play popular Korean songs.

Fourteen contestants will be joining the Rampada (street dancing) to be held tomorrow.
