CEBU, Philippines - A second year high school student committed suicide in Tuburan town last Saturday morning reportedly after he was scolded by his mother.

The boy was 14 years old. He used a belt to hang himself. He was declared dead when brought to the Tuburan District Hospital.

Investigation revealed that the boy’s five-year-old sister still saw the boy right before he ended his life at their house, but the boy did not heed his sister’s plea and pursued his plan.

“Niingon pa gani ning manghod nga ‘ayaw kuya’... gitubag man sa maguwang og ‘ayaw’g saba ni mama’,” SPO4 Carlo Canseko told The FREEMAN in a phone interview.

Canseko said the boy was with his sisters at the sea prior to the incident. The boy reportedly went home ahead when their mother, arrived.

He went to house and hanged himself with the belt even as his sister pleaded him not to. The mother subsequently arrived and called for neighbors to help her when she saw her son’s nose bleeding.

Investigation revealed that the boy was scolded by his mother for going out late in the evening together with his friends. As a punishment, the mother also reportedly grounded her son.

“Na-misinterpret siguro aning bata ang gibuhat sa inahan unya nangluod dayon,” Canseko said.

Canseko said they also found suicide messages in the boy’s mobile phone, one of which read, “magmalipayon na mo, paghudyaka na mo (you will all be happy now, you can all celebrate now).” — (FREEMAN)
