CEBU, Philippines - A jeepney driver and his younger brother, a CAFGU trainee, were shot by two unidentified gunmen dawn yesterday.
Police said Gerardo Recablanca, 40, had fetched his brother, Pastor, 38, from Sitio Greenfield, Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City using the former’s motorcycle at around 1 a.m..
However, they reportedly stopped near the corner of F. Jaca Street and White Road. Pastor then disembarked from the motorcycle, a move reportedly spurred by an argument with his older brother.
Moments later, two men on board a motorcycle stopped near the victims and the first assailant pulled the trigger on the younger Recablanca, hitting him on his right hand, right wrist and right thigh.
The other attacker also fired at Gerardo and hit him on the left hand and left thigh.
Tanods of Barangay Inayawan and responding policemen from the Pardo Police Station rushed the two victims to the Cebu City Medical Center.
Authorities recovered six empty shells of a cal. 45 pistol from the crime scene.
In another incident, two men were shot while riding a bicycle in Sitio Kalinaw, Barangay Carreta, this city, at around 10 p.m.
Jeffrey Villanueva and Heracleo Manatad, both 20 years old, were on board a single bicycle when a certain “Marjun” shouted at them from the roadside.
The two reportedly ignored it and continued on their way.
However, when they heard the suspect load an unidentified firearm, Villanueva, who was pedaling the bicycle, maneuvered faster to Manatad’s house nearby.
The gunman gave chase and shot both of them, hitting both of their right legs.
When they had reached Manatad’s house, Marjun did not follow them anymore.
Both victims were rushed to CCMC for immediate medical attention. They were out of harm’s way as of yesterday.
Police said Villanueva and Manatad had alleged they had a previous grudge with the suspect involving another shooting incident two years ago. — (FREEMAN)
