VECO protects Cathedral museum from electrical hazards

-

CEBU, Philippines - “The Cathedral museum of Cebu now has a secured sense of peace in terms of electrical hazards.” This how Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma described the completion of the museum’s rewiring, a project of the Archdiocese and Visayan Electric Company (VECO).

Last April 12, the Visayan Electric Company, Inc. (VECO), turned over the newly rewired museum to the Archdiocesan Commission for the Cultural Heritage led by its chairman, Msgr. Carlito V. Pono.

It was in November 25, 2011 when VECO and the Archdiocese of Cebu entered into an agreement to upgrade the electrical fixtures of the said museum.

In a message read by Msgr. Pono, Archbishop Palma called the Cathedral Museum “a living vessel in which one can revisit the past and discover the present”, specifically that of the life of our faith.

“The necessary rewiring project of the whole electrical system of the museum reflects the church’s commitment to safeguard her artistic cultural patrimony and the structure itself that becomes the depository of the rich cultural heritage treasures, especially that of the artistic opus of the human genius,” Palma added.

VECO EVP & COO Jaime Jose Aboitiz said it is VECO’s first time to do a project for a religious structure, having focused most of its corporate social responsibility projects on education. With the company’s eagerness to help promote the museum, Aboitiz has committed to sponsor the students’ educational tour to the Cathedral museum starting this June.

Aboitiz believes that by leading the Cebuano youth to the museum, they will be able to appreciate better the history of Christianity in Cebu and deepen their religious faith. (PR)(FREEMAN)
