Noynoy visiting Cebu today

CEBU, Philippines - President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III will be in Cebu today to attend the 17th World Electronic Forum and Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Inc.’s 108th General Membership meeting at Shangri-La Hotel, Lapu-Lapu City.

In a press briefing yesterday, Fayette Riñen of the Philippine Information Agency-7 said Aquino will arrive at 1 p.m. and will only stay for an hour before flying back to Manila.

Aquino will be the speaker of the said event that will be attended by more than 200 chief executive officers, presidents and directors of electronics industry organizations worldwide.

Riñen said that Department of Justice Secretary Leila de Lima and Department of Trade and Industry secretary Gregory Domingo will accompany Aquino.

This will be the sixth visit of the president to Cebu since he was elected. The last time Aquino was here was last June 27, where he inaugurated the 200-megawatt Kepco-SPC power plant in Naga City. It was here where he met his current flame, Grace Lee, who hosted the said event.

The SEIP’s quarterly industry meeting is set to discuss issues and concerns affecting the industry as well as the business outlook and prognosis of global and electronics industry.

SEIP is the leading and largest organization of foreign and Filipino electronics companies in the Philippines.

SEIP’s membership includes leading global semi-conductor and electronics companies such as Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, On Semiconductor, Fairchild Semiconductor, Cypress, Lexmark, Toshiba, Hitachi, Fujitsu, NEC, Mitsumi, Amkor Technologies, NXP, continental Temic, Sunpower, IMI, Ionics, Sharp, Sanyo, Rohm, Samsung, among others.

WEF is a voluntary gathering of CEOs, president and directors of electronics industry organizations worldwide and meets annually to discuss major topics of common interest to the various organizations, exchange of information on services and data and strengthen relations between industry organizations.

Previous WEF meeting were hosted by USA, China, Japan, UK, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Israel and Australia. — /BRP (FREEMAN)
