CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways inaugurated Wednesday seven bridges and 126 kilometers of national roads in the Fourth District of the Province of Cebu.
Rep. Benhur Salimbangon and Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia led the inauguration rites which started at the Olivo Bridge in the municipality of Tabuelan.
The other newly built bridges and concreted roads are located in the towns of San Remigio and Daanbantayan.
Incoming DPWH-7 director Ador Canlas admired the harmonious relationship of the local officials resulting in the smooth implementation of national projects.
Garcia said she was invited by Salimbangon to grace the occasion although the ones being inaugurated are national projects.
There are also other projects in the district that are shared by Salimbangon, Garcia and the towns. The project is called “kurambos”.
Salimbangon said he is trying his best to concrete all national roads in his district before his term ends.
Salimbangon has been exerting efforts to source out funds from the national government for road concreting projects since he was elected in 2007.
He said about ten percent of the national roads in the district are left unpaved while others are ongoing such as in Ilihan, Tabogon down to Bogo City and Medellin.
The 15 kilometers of asphalted road connecting the six kilometers of concreted provincial road from Curva, Medellin to Poblacion, Daanbantayan is also set for concreting after the Capitol agreed its conversion into national road.
The DPWH has set aside P145 million for the concreting of the said provincial road once the jurisdiction is given to them. (FREEMAN)
