CEBU, Philippines - Assistant Cebu City prosecutor Liceria Rabillas was elected vice president for the Visayas of the Prosecutors League of the Philippines during the league’s 12th election of officers held in Manila last week.
Rabillas has dethroned her colleague, assistant city prosecutor Mary Ann Castro, with an overwhelming 122 votes out of the 160 voters from the three regions in the Visayas. Castro failed in her reelection bid with only 29 votes.
Regional State Prosecutor Fernando Gubalane was also elected league’s director for Central Visayas.
Though she failed to get reelected, Castro was declared champion by the prosecutor’s league in the shooting competition. The region’s basketball team headed by Regional State Prosecutor Fernando Gubalane also placed fourth over all.
Castro did not anymore comment on her defeat to Rabillas.
Rabillas said she was overwhelmed by the results considering that it was her first time to run. The national prosecutors’ league election is done every two years.
Regional State Prosecutor Jaime Umta of Cagayan de Oro was elected president of the league for the next two years. (FREEMAN)
