CEBU, Philippines - The Naga City police yesterday filed charges against a man accused of killing a couple who worked as herbal doctors in Naga City.
Victor Sandoy, 34, a resident of Barangay Cogon-Pardo, Cebu City, was charged for double murder before the Naga City Prosecutor’s Office.
The Provincial Intelligence Branch also filed charges against him for illegal possession of firearms before the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office.
The filing of illegal possession of firearms was made in Cebu City because Sandoy was arrested in Barangay Cogon-Pardo. It was Prosecutor Rodulph Joseph Val Carillo who carried out the inquest proceedings on the respondent and Sandoy waived his right to a preliminary investigation to answer the allegations filed against him.
Carillo then recommended the filing of the case before the Municipal Trial Court in Cities.
Junie Alvero, 30, and his wife Marjilly Alvero, 28, were shot dead inside their house in Barangay South Poblacion, Naga City, last March 25.
Sandoy was arrested five days later in Barangay Cogon-Pardo by the PIB after receiving a tip.
The police said they saw respondent with a .45 cal. pistol tucked in his pants. They added he tried to escape but he was apprehended.
Sandoy was reportedly identified through the description given by a nine-year-old son of the couple.
The boy said he saw the respondent’s face when he opened the cover of his full-face helmet.
He said he was familiar of the respondent because the latter visited their house often.
However, during an interview, Sandoy denied the killing and said he was just a fall guy. (FREEMAN)
