CEBU, Philippines - A town councilor lost over P100,000 worth of valuables to four suspected thieves who broke into his house Wednesday morning at a subdivision in Barangay Lamac, Consolacion.
Borbon Councilor Mardonio Mangubat claimed to have lost a P30,000 worth gold necklace; a gold bracelet worth P20,000; two gold rings with precious stones worth P50,000; a pair of Nike shoes worth P6,000; jacket worth P2,000; two Levis pants worth P6,400; and assorted T-shirts worth P5,000.
Two of the four suspects however were arrested by the roving security guard of the subdivision on their way to escape. Consolacion police chief Wilbert Parilla identified the arrested suspects as Harris Mahinay, 18; and Rochie Salinas, 18, both residents of Barangay Pulpogan.
The two were turned over to the police by security guard Neil Sungkal who arrested them on their way to escape.
Mahinay and Salinas identified their two companions who were able to escape with their loots as Jovan Pantindor and Kevin Tampus. The suspects broke into the councilor’s house at 9:30 a.m. while nobody was at home by destroying the padlock in the main door.
The suspects took advantage of the opportunity while the councilor’s wife, Rosalinda, 57, and her son Mark Anthony were out to the market.
Councilor Mangubat told the police that his neighbors texted him about the presence of the suspicious looking persons in their house. The councilor said he immediately called his wife to inform her about the presence of the suspicious persons in their house.
Rosalinda and her son went home immediately but they were met by the guard who has already arrested two of the suspects.
According to the police, the suspects are the ones responsible in the spate of burglary incidents in the subdivision.
A criminal complaint for robbery was filed yesterday against the four suspects before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office. (FREEMAN)
