Man shot Dead
CEBU, Philippines - A man died after he was shot in the head on Sunday afternoon while drinking with a friend at Barangay Lusaran, Cebu City.
Timoteo Puebla, 49, of Sitio Hagnom, of the same barangay, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds to the head at around 3 pm. He died on the spot.
He was allegedly shot by Ryan “Iti” Doncillo, of Barangay Adlaon, who is the brother of a gunman who also tried to kill Puebla in the late 1990’s.
At that time, Puebla survived the attack which led to the incarceration of Doncillo’s brother.
Investigators said Puebla was drinking with his friend, Sofronio Fernandez Jaime, 62, at a vacant shed by the roadside when the incident occurred.
Doncillo and his unidentified companion reportedly approached Puebla and Jaime a few minutes before the shooting.
Puebla allegedly offered Doncillo a drink which was quickly rejected. Out of respect, the suspect’s companion took the glass of liquor and drank it.
Suddenly, the suspect took out a gun and fired shots at the victim’s head. Puebla slumped on top of a bamboo table while other residents scampered for cover.
The victim’s wife, Fe, 48, who left to fetch drinking water, heard a lone gunshot from afar, prompting her to rush back.
She then saw Doncillo and his companion fleeing the crime scene towards Sitio Hagmit, Barangay Adlawon.
Three deformed slugs and shells from a cal. 45 pistol were recovered from the crime scene.
Sr. Insp. Jul Muhammad Jamiri, homicide chief, said personal grudge outweighed the other possible motives behind the attack.
He added that the positive identification of Doncillo has been a great help to their investigation.
“Wala man to siya’y problema ingon ang iyang mga silingan gawas nga mag yaw-yaw gyud siya kun mahubog, (His neighbors said he (Puebla) wasn’t a problem, he justs talks a lot when drunk.)” he added. (FREEMAN)
