Asturias man dies in motorcycle accident

CEBU, Philippines - A 26-year-old man died after the motorcycle he was driving rammed the concrete fence of a house along the national road of Sitio Macalbang, Barangay Sta. Lucia, Asturias town, shortly after midnight yesterday.

Ednald Palatolon Prialde, of Barangay Old Bago, Asturias, was declared dead on arrival at the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Balamban town.

The severe head injury he sustained caused Prialde’s death.

Prialde was heading home when the incident happened. He was onboard his Honda TMX 155cc motorcycle without a plate number.

SPO2 Vincent Aguanta, Asturias police investigator, suspected that Prialde could have been under the influence of liquor or fell asleep while driving. Based on the skid marks found, Aguanta said that when Prialde reached the curved portion of the road, he drove straight ahead encroaching to the other lane and rammed into the fence of the house.

“Wa naman siya kaliko, diretso ra gyud paminaw nako possible nakatulog gyud ni, (He wasn’t able to make the turn and went straight. I think he fell asleep.)” Aguanta told The FREEMAN in a phone interview.

The owners of the house were in Cebu City at that time.

Aguanta added that Prialde was rescued about an hour after the incident, as reported by the victim’s father.

A concerned citizen onboard a bike passed by the area coming from a benefit dance was the one who went to the police station and informed them about the accident.

Prialde’s remain now lies at their house for vigil. — (FREEMAN)
