Brgy assemblies set on March 31

CEBU, Philippines - The synchronized barangay assembly for the first semester of 2012 is set on March 31. 

DILG Cebu City Director Patricio Gabuya said that pursuant to Proclamation 260 dated

September 30, 2011, the Barangay Assembly for the first semester of 2012 is set on March 31, 2012 as contained in DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2012-29 dated February 10, 2012. 

Every barangay, according to Gabuya is directed to undertake activities such as the State of the Barangay Address with emphasis on the 2011 second semester accomplishments. He said the 2011 second semester financial report to include, among others, the itemized monthly collections and disbursements and the summary of income and expenditures; and updates on 2012 first semester ongoing programs and projects. 

The discussion on issues and concerns affecting the barangay peace and order situation, disaster preparedness, solid waste management, implementation of the Aksyon Barangay Kontra Dengue particularly the regular clean up basis must be taken up during the barangay assembly.

The DILG memo also directed barangay officials to discuss responsibilities of the barangay on the National Greening Program particularly on the production of seedlings for the nationwide synchronized planting on June 25, 2012 in celebration of the Philippine Arbor Day. 

Barangay officials may also undertake other activities they deem appropriate to create public awareness and generate participation in the barangay assembly such as, but not limited to, medical and dental mission, bazaars and cultural presentations. 

Gabuya also said that barangay officials must prepare barangay assembly posters or banners to be posted or hanged in conspicuous places like the barangay hall. — (FREEMAN)
