Lorega-San Miguel 40 families to get housing unit
CEBU, Philippines - At least 40 urban poor families have availed of the socialized housing project undertaken by the Cebu City Government in Lorega-San Miguel.
The city government and its partner organizations, Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation Incorporated and the Action for Nurturing Children and Environment or ANCE, are scheduled to turnover the housing units to the beneficiaries next month.
“It’s ready for occupants,” said Councilor Alvin Dizon, chairman of the committee on the urban poor development in the City Council.
Dizon announced the scheduled turnover during a forum yesterday in celebration of the 20th anniversary since the passage of the Urban Development and Housing Act.
According to Dizon, the Lorega San Miguel Socialized Housing is one of the major pilot projects that can be replicated by other local government units in Central Visayas.
The project includes a road network, drainage and sewage systems. The housing site covers about 9,000 square meters of the Lorega cemetery. He said they are planning to extend the project to accommodate more beneficiaries.
Dizon said the city government intends to build five more buildings for socialized housing.
“We are still looking for other areas to build our medium rise building,” he said.
The beneficiaries will have to rent but the city is yet to determine the rental amount.
The project was made possible because of the P10 million allocation from the Priority Development Assistance Fund of former North District Rep. Raul Del Mar and the P2 million donation from ANCE. — (FREEMAN)
