CEBU, Philippines - Two men died in separate vehicular incidents in San Fernando and Bogo City.
In San Fernando town, a project employee of the Tagbag Multi-Purpose Cooperative died after his motorcycle plunged into an open drainage in Barangay Panadtaran. The victim was identified as Jerson Bonghanoy, 30.
Circumstances surrounding the incident remained sketchy as no one saw how and why the incident happened.
What the police gathered was that residents in the area were awakened by a loud crash around 2am. When they checked, they found Bonghanoy sprawled on the road, his red XRM motorcycle already down the drainage. Bonghanoy sustained severe injuries on different parts of his body.
The motorcycle has not been registered. Bonghanoy was rushed to the Carcar City District Hospital but passed away minutes later.
Meanwhile, another man died when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a Fuso truck on the national highway in Barangay Taytayan, Bogo City last Tuesday night.
Jose Espinosa , 51, of Barangay Tambongon, San Remigio, died of a major injury in the head. He was reportedly dragged by the truck about 19 meters away from the point of impact.
The truck driver, Rosendo Caliza Jr., 31, of Barangay Gairan, Bogo City, is now detained at the Bogo City Police stockade pending the filing of charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide against him. The Fuso truck is registered with the plate number GXE-739.
Police initial investigation disclosed that Espinosa was driving his Honda motorcycle from Bogo City when he collided with the truck at a slightly curved portion of the national road in Barangay Tambongon. The truck was traveling from Barangay Polambato, Bogo City to Cebu City.
His motorcycle bore the plate number 9161YD.
Espinosa was rushed to the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Cebu City but was declared dead on arrival. — Ria Mae Y. Booc/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
