CEBU, Philippines - A member of the Philippine Army was arrested by the police in Carcar City last Monday after he indiscriminately fired his firearm in front of the four minors.
Private 1st class Rene Emnace, 43, is also accused of resisting arrest and disobedience to persons in authority.
Carcar City police chief Teodulo Manatad III said they received report at 6:45 p.m. last Monday about an armed person firing his gun in front of the four minors in Sitio Dam Barangay Poblacion.
Manatad said that upon reaching the place, they found Emnace and two other companions having a drinking session at a store. Manatad said they approached Emnace courteously and introduced themselves as police officers.
However, Emnace reportedly got wild and started pushing them away. The responding policemen were forced to use force to subdue the suspect and placed him under arrest.
The police however failed to recover the firearm used by Emnace but three empty shells of caliber .45 ammunitions were recovered in the area.
Manatad said they are still coordinating with the Armed Forces of the Philippine Central Command to determine what unit Emnace was assigned.
Emnace was subjected to a paraffin test as well as liquor test at the Carcar City District Hospital. The police are already preparing criminal complaints for illegal discharge of firearm, resisting arrest, and disobedience to persons in authority against the suspect. – (FREEMAN)
