Carbon Police Station gets new chief

CEBU, Philippines - The Carbon Police Station has a new chief after Chief Insp. Pablo Cabildo was relieved from the post following the shooting of a man right behind the police station.

Sr. Insp. Eunil Avergonzado, former chief of the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Team (CAIDSOT), now heads the police station. Chief Insp. Renero Agustin took over as CAIDSOT chief. Agustin himself headed the Carbon Police Station before Cabildo.

Cabildo, who held the position for only two weeks, has been reassigned to the Cebu City Police Office public safety unit.

Avergonzado told The FREEMAN that he received his relief and reassignment orders at the CAIDSOT office after the regular inspection midday yesterday. He said he was shocked by the reshuffling. The orders took effect immediately.

"Na shock gyud ko," Avergonzado said.

Despite the surprise, he reportedly visited the Carbon Police Station right away. Cabildo and Agustin reportedly toured him at the station and briefed him of his new post.

"Maayo sad kaayo ang pag-welcome sa akong bagong mga sakop nako kaganiha (My new staff welcomed me warmly earlier)," Avergonzado told The FREEMAN yesterday.

He will assume as chief of the Carbon Police Station beginning Monday.

"Sa Monday na ko opisyal nga mo linkod ug makig-estorya sa media sa akong mga plano (I will assume post formally on Monday. I will also talk to the media about my plans)," he said.

The reshuffling of posts came after Mayor Michael Rama expressed dismay over the shooting. He questioned how the incident could happen right at the station's backyard.

Rama said earlier that he would also want to transfer all the policemen assigned at the Carbon Police Station.

Juncel "Timoy" Misa, 28, of Barangay Duljo-Fatima, was shot point blank on the face by a man identified only as "Agaw". The suspect managed to flee.

He was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center but passed away a few hours later.   - (THE FREEMAN)
