Alleged notorious robbers fall

CEBU, Philippines - Six people, including two alleged notorious robbers and two minors, were arrested by the police along Natalio Bacalso Avenue early morning yesterday.

Now under police custody are Nelgin Briones Dacalso, 27; Merion Carl Camomot, 27; Mar Joseph Abellanosa, 18; Ernesto Andog, 24; a 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy. They have been tagged in string of robbery incidents in the city the past two weeks.

With a prior alert over a yellow multicab, elements of the Cebu City Police Office Mobile Patrol Group followed the yellow multicab ridden by the suspects when they spotted the vehicle along Natalio Bacalso Avenue at 5:45 am. They eventually intercepted the vehicle near the St. Bernard Funeral Homes in Barangay Mambaling

One of the arresting officers, PO1 Meoniq Cabañero, told The FREEMAN that they conducted a body search on the people on board the vehicle when one of them allegedly moved his hand to his waist. A caliber .357 revolver was confiscated from Andog while a caliber .38 revolver was recovered from Dacalso.

A black bag containing a laptop, seven cellular phones and several identification cards was also recovered from the vehicle.

The multicab ridden by the suspects bearing plate number JCS-658 is reportedly owned by the mother of the 17-year-old boy. The mother reportedly runs a business in Barangay Mambaling.

A few hours after the arrest, five people identified the suspects as the ones who robbed them last week.

Jane Wee, Julius Golosinda, and Jane Ybañez pointed to Andog and Dacalso as the ones who robbed them inside a jeepney traveling from Barangay Apas last February 28.

Rodriguez and Mambati also pointed to Andog and Dacalso as the ones who robbed them near the Redemptorist Church last Sunday dawn. They said they recognized the yellow multicab that the suspects boarded right after robbing them.

The suspects denied the allegations.  (FREEMAN)
