Tom wants F. Sotto widened
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City South District Rep. Tomas R. Osmeña has asked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to conduct a feasibility study for the widening of Felimon Sotto Street and open it for two-way traffic.
F. Sotto Street is a narrow one-way road linking Gorordo Avenue from corner Archbishop Reyes Avenue to General Maxilom Avenue near the Iglesia ni Kristo (INK) Church.
Osmeña said he cannot source out the fund for the widening from his Priority Development Assistance Fund because it is no longer part of his district. According to Osmeña, the funding should come from the infrastructure budget of the DPWH.
Osmeña said that widening the F. Sotto Street will help solve the traffic congestion in Gorordo Avenue and Archbishop Reyes Avenue.
The proposed construction of a flyover at the intersections of Gorordo and Archbishop Reyes Avenues would have solved the traffic problem but the project was suspended because of the strong opposition from the owners of business establishments along the area.
Meanwhile, Osmeña also said he had proposed some changes in the traffic flow of vehicles passing through the South Coastal Road by prohibiting vehicles coming from the Mambaling access road from making a left turn to Cebu City crossing the main road.
Osmeña said the changes that he had proposed is that all Cebu City-bound vehicles coming from Mambaling should right turn and proceed to south before making a U-turn at the bridge.
Vehicles coming from the south area going to Mambaling using the access road should make a U-turn only at the foot of the viaduct.
Osmeña explained that once the U-turn slots are constructed there will also be islands at the middle of the road to prevent accidents. (FREEMAN)
