Cebu operators, drivers want fare hike
CEBU, Philippines - Members of the Cebu Confederation of Transport Operators and Drivers Inc. (CCTODI) are scheduled to meet within the week to discuss how much increase in jeepney fare they will be asking from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
This follows after a new round of increase in fuel took effect yesterday, the 6th fuel hike for this year.
“Definitely, there is a need to increase jeepney’s fare but as to how much, we still have to agree on that,” said CCTODI Chairman Ryan Benjamin Yu.
Aside from fuel prices, Yu said the prices of almost everything have gone up. Transport operators will also reportedly increase the rental on their jeepneys owing to the same reasons.
“Di lang ang presyo sa lana ang nimahal, hasta ang presyo sa mga spareparts, sa ligid, bayad sa mga mekaniko ug uban mao pa. Mao ni ang mga factor nga among e consider kung pila gyud ang pangayu-on namo nga increase,” Yu said.
It can be recalled that CCTODI deferred their plan last November to file a petition for a P2.50 increase in the minimum fair for a jeepney ride after oil companies brought down the prices of fuel on the same month. — (FREEMAN)
