CEBU, Philippines - The City Council is scheduled to discuss and decide today on the proposal of Mayor Michael Rama to grant a Charter Day bonus to each of the 4,651 employees of City Hall.
In his First Supplemental Budget for 2012, Rama included a budget of P32,557,000 for the granting of a P7,000 anniversary bonus to each employee, but another P3,000 for each of the employees will be taken from the annual budget.
“Kon maaprobahan sa City Council ang paghatag og Charter Day bonus nga tag-P10,000 sa matag employee ang P3,000 adto kuhaon sa annual budget kay gibutangan na man na daan,” said Assistant City Treasurer Emma Villarete.
Of the P32.5 million budget for cash incentives, the P22,862,000 will be taken from the General Fund while P9,695,000 will be taken from special accounts.
If ever, Vice Mayor Joy Augustus Young and the city councilors will be among those entitled to receive the Charter Day bonus.
“Maayo unta og aprobahan sa City Council uy kay sa ubang local government units ingon ana man ‘sab nga mohatag sila og bonus kon mag-celebrate sila sa anniversary,” an employee of the City Hall’s public information office said.
Rama earlier said the Charter Day bonus is different from the P10,000 Christmas bonus the city has given up.
However, Young said that instead of spending the surplus of the city’s budget to grant bonuses, it would be better if the mayor would spend the money for medicines or to purchase the needed spare parts of defective garbage trucks. – Rene U. Borromeo/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
