San Remigio gets ambulance and medical equipment

CEBU, Philippines - The Municipality of San Remigio in northern Cebu has acquired two units of ambulance and various medical equipment from Sweden.

The medical equipment include ultra sound, walking aid, wheelchair, hospital bed, straight chairs, firefighting equipment, two units defibrillator, various operating equipments, special child seat, two units of CTG monitoring system.

Responsible in the acquisition of said equipment through donation is Niel Erixon, a Swedish national who shared his expertise to the local volunteers of San Remigio.

Erixon specialized on rescue and fire brigade in Sweden where he was a volunteer. He is now a resident of Hagnaya, San Remigio after he married a Filipina.

Erxon said that his father, Hans, a government officer in Sweden, was responsible for all transactions from acquiring the said donation from Karlskoga Hospital, Karlskoga City, Sweden.

Hans took charge of shipping the ambulance and medical equipment from Sweden to the Philippines until it landed in Cebu last February 7, 2012.

San Remigio Mayor Jay Olivar said the use of said ambulances is not totally free as they will charge minimal fee to augment the gasoline and other expenses. 

“Mr. Niel is important in our municipality because he is the one who assisted us in training the San Remigio Rescue Unit which I want to organize later,” Olivar said.
