Rotary, DPWH to build San Remigio school bldg
CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways and the Rotary Club of Cebu Port Center recently signed a memorandum of agreement for the construction of six classroom buildings worth P2.4 million in Barangay Tambongon, San Remigio town, Cebu.
Fourth District Representative Benhur Salimbangon will give P400,000 from his Priority Development Assistance Fund for the procurement of materials for the school project.
“After the completion of this project a lot of children ages 16 to 21 years old will be given a chance to go to school,” Salimbangon said after the MOA signing.
Under the MOA, the San Remigio local government unit and the Rotary Club will shoulder the cost of labor and the incidental expenses for the construction and completion of the school building.
The LGU will give P100,000 as contribution to the cost of labor as well as to facilitate the expeditious processing of the necessary permits pertaining to the project.
The Rotary Club will also provide assistance by soliciting from local and international donors the books, computers and other educational materials to be donated to Tambongon Community High School.
Antonio Ynoc, founder of Ynoc Family Foundation and also the president of the said Rotary Club, will provide P100,000 and is in charge of the safekeeping of all funds contributed as well as the accounting of the expenses.
The foundation shall also undertake the construction and supervision of the project as well as providing the students who are residents of the said barangay the necessary tools and supplies like uniforms, shoes, bags, computers, sports equipment and industrial tools.
The Tambongon Elementary School has become an integrated school due to the newly-opened first year high school.
The opening of the said high school requires the corresponding need for classrooms and other learning tools and instructional materials.
All the parties of the MOA, are committed to respond to the emerging needs of high school students of barangay Tambongon by providing them adequate resources and appropriate technology that will create and sustain a conducive school environment that will enhance their learning.
“The construction of this school would be great help for my constituents especially those who cannot afford their children to be in school because they cannot afford fare,” San Remigio Mayor Jay Olivar said.
Ynoc said that they are very grateful for the support given by the people involved in the construction as their vision of giving good education to the youths of Barangay Tambongon will be realized. (FREEMAN)
